At WTW Lanka, we believe that every child deserves the chance to succeed—regardless of background. Our mission is rooted in the belief that education is the most powerful tool to transform lives, break cycles of poverty, and create lasting social change.
Recently, we launched a highly impactful initiative: a free English O-Level preparation program for a group of Grade 10 students from financially underprivileged families. These students come from communities where access to quality education—especially in English—is limited or entirely unavailable. English proficiency is a key to unlock higher education and employment opportunities in Sri Lanka, and through this project, we are working to give these students not just lessons, but a path to a brighter future.
The early results have been promising and deeply inspiring. Through targeted instruction, consistent mentorship, and practical language support, students are already showing greater confidence in their academic abilities and enthusiasm about their futures. For these young learners, this project is more than a class—it’s a lifeline.
This initiative currently supports 20 academically promising Grade 10 students selected from Christ King College, Gonsalvez College, and St. Mary’s College. These students were carefully identified in partnership with school staff, based on a combination of academic potential, financial hardship, and personal motivation.
Many of these students face significant barriers to continuing their education—chief among them being the lack of access to private tuition or quality English instruction. As English remains a core subject in national exams and is essential for further studies and employment, this project was designed to bridge that educational gap and offer students the support they otherwise would not receive.
Our program provides one full year of structured, high-quality English classes, aligned with the national GCE O/L curriculum. The curriculum is designed not just to prepare them for the exam but to strengthen their language fluency, comprehension, and communication skills—building the tools they need for long-term academic and career success.
To ensure high-quality instruction, WTW Lanka partnered with Headway City College (HCC), a well-established institution known for its excellence in English language education and youth development.
HCC provides experienced, student-focused teachers who conduct weekly lessons tailored to the national syllabus. They collaborated closely with us to design lesson plans, conduct initial placement tests, and track student progress. This partnership ensures each student receives personalized support and sets a strong foundation for future expansion of the program.
This wasn’t just a language program—it was a step toward equity, empowerment, and opportunity.
Education shouldn’t be a privilege. It should be a right.
