English with Heart: WTW Lanka at Christ King College, Wattala

WTW Lanka is committed to creating inclusive and engaging learning experiences for students across Sri Lanka. Recently, we organized an English learning session at Christ King College, Wattala, where more than 200 students from Grades 6–9 and 11–13 participated in a highly interactive program.

The session went beyond traditional classroom teaching, combining practical language skills with dynamic activities such as Self-Introduction, Back-to-Board, Running Dictation, and the “Project Countries” vocabulary challenge. These activities encouraged teamwork, built confidence, and helped students use English in meaningful ways. For many, it was their first opportunity to speak out in English with confidence.

The participants came from diverse backgrounds, including Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim communities, with many students from low-income households. Their enthusiastic participation and positive feedback reinforced the importance of providing accessible, high-quality learning opportunities for all children.

We extend our gratitude to the Christ King College team for their support and to our collaborators at Headway City College (HCC) for partnering with us to make this session a success. Through initiatives like this, WTW Lanka continues its mission to empower young learners and strengthen education in local communities.
